Used Car Extended Warranties
How lucky do you feel?
If a used car has less than 140,000 miles you can get extended warranty protection; it’s not cheap but it will cover the major things that can go wrong for and additional 5 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first.
The company I recommend is SmartAutoWarranty.com which is owned by CarChex.com and is the preferred extended Warranty Company of eBay Motors, AutoScoop, CarFax, Cars.com, LendingTree, RoadLoans, and many more. You are in very good company with this company.
All the warranty companies have you wait 90 days and 1,000 miles from the purchase before the policy kicks in – that prevents folks who know of a pre-existing condition from making a claim.
This company and policy lets you take in your car to ANY car dealer, like Toyota, or ASE Certified Mechanic and they will call the insurance company to arrange payment. This policy can have a co-payment or not – it depends on the plan. Click here to find ASE mechanics.
You must do normal maintenance to the car, like changing the oil, and you must keep the paperwork – just throw it in the glove box after each change. Click here to see a sample policy.
I can’t stress how important it is to reading the policy paperwork, the “Terms and Conditions”. This is NOT a new car warranty where everything is covered from bumper to bumper. However, the major components, the really expensive ones, are covered but each company is different and each company has many policies – read the paperwork BEFORE you buy.
The extended warranty some used car dealers covers the first 30-90 days and that is why a used car from a dealership is more expensive than a private sale – there is a warranty they offer that you pay for. There is no FREE anything in the used car market – the buyer pays for buying the car, all the advertising, the sales manager, the salesrep, the A/C and heating at the dealership, their lights, etc – you, the buyer, pay for all of it.
SmartAutoWarranty.com is our preferred extended warranty company. Here are things they cover.
With American companies going out of business left and right its good to know that an independent insurance company will make the payments if SmartAutoWarranty.com goes belly-up.
