Car Safety
The daughter of a neighbor of mine turned 16 and mom and dad bought her a used red Mustang convertible for her birthday present. Once week later we saw on TV that red Mustang wrapped around a telephone pole and two of the four kids were thrown from the car and killed. The other two suffered great injuries. Sadly my neighbor’s daughter was one of the two killed.
Of course the kids didn’t wear seat belts and the car was doing 60 MPH in a 30 and the top of the Mustang was down, alcohol was involved too.
Safety seems to be an afterthought for many/most used car buyers. If you are buying a used car for a son or daughter you might want to pay a little more attention to safety that is built into the car.
I’m going to give you a Safety Table that is my opinion of articles I’ve read about a lot of cars. I’m including cars/models that I don’t recommend for used cars normally but safety is a very special item where the rules don’t apply. If you have a better table please add it as a comment.
The Safest Cars:
Acura RL, RDX, TL
BMW X5
Subaru Impreza, Legacy/Outback
Volkswagen Passat, Rabbit
Next Best:
BMW 3 Series, X3, X5
Cadillac CTS
Honda Accord, Civic
Infiniti EX
Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Like I said, safety is a very special consideration in buying a used car – it may override all other considerations.
