Subaru Introduces their Cash for Clunkers Program

  1. Visit www.CARS.gov and check if the program is still in effect.  It is in effect until October 31, 2009 or until the federal funds run out.
  2. Have proof of insurance for the past year, proof of registration for the past year, “clear” title means that you are on the title for the past year and no liens (no loans) and the car is less than 25 years old and that you have NOT used the CARS system before
  3. Bring the paperwork to the new car dealer and have them verify the information and find out what cars you qualify for and what the government voucher is for (either $3,500 or $4,500)
  4. The car dealer turns in your paperwork and about 10 days later the government will issue a credit voucher to the dealer if everything is ok

There are two types of vouchers issued by the government to the Subaru dealer:

$3,500 voucher:

The new car gets at least 22 mpg or the new truck, SUV, or minivan gets 18 mpg and your trade-in clunker car got 18 mpg or less or the clunker truck got 16 mpg or less

$4,500 voucher:

The new car gets at least 22 mpg or the new truck, SUV, or minivan gets 18 mpg and your trade-in clunker car got 12 mpg or less or the clunker truck got 13 mpg or less
